A boat fire in a pen at East Fremantle’s Aquarama Marina resulted in one person being treated by paramedics before being transported to hospital. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after the fire started at 9am but were unable to prevent the boat from sinking. Picture: Danielle Berryman The fire burnt for over over an hour before being extinguished. The boat’s moorings had burnt and the vessel had drifted through adjoining pens. Nearby boats were mildly damaged but firefighters, supported by four trucks, prevented the fire spreading. About 100 people watched as firefighters controlled the blaze. One thing standing out like a giant penguin at Rockingham’s Castaways 2021 beach sculpture exhibition is the lack of people discussing “the juxtaposition of …” well … anything. There are plenty of people engaged with the artworks, more humanly than academically. Saturday morning. A small crowd has gathered in Fremantle’s Italian Club for a cat show. It’s the kind of event I would have taken my sons to a few years ago but they’re sixteen now and reluctant to leave their rooms on weekends so I head in solo with the chance of meeting a colleague. I can’t help admiring cats for their command of humans. Dogs win people over with goofy grins, couch cuddles or guarding their homes.
